Coaching · Every class, program and rep team

Coached properly, at every level

Every class, program and representative team at Bossley Bears is run by a club coach working from one shared curriculum. So the way you learn to pass in your first class is the way you'll pass in your first rep season.

How we coach

What you'll notice in every session

One focus per session
Each class is built around one skill of the night. Your coach shows what good looks like, then the whole session works towards it.
Lots of touches
Drills are set up so you're playing the ball, not waiting in a line. More contacts per session is the fastest way to improve.
Feedback you can use
Short, specific cues, one thing at a time. You'll leave knowing what to keep doing and what to work on next.
Always back to the game
Every class finishes in real rallies, so the skill you worked on gets used under pressure, with a coach watching.
Coached to your level
Sessions are split by age and level, and coaches adjust each drill on the night so it stretches you without breaking down.
The same language everywhere
One curriculum and one set of coaching cues across the club, so changing nights or coaches never means starting again.
Inside a class

Ninety minutes, four parts

  1. 1
    Start
    Warm-up
Get moving, get loose and get a ball in your hands early.
  2. 2
    Then
    The skill of the night
One focus per class. Your coach demonstrates it and explains exactly what to aim for.
  3. 3
    Most of the class
    Build it up
Lots of touches, progressing at the pace of the group, with coaches correcting as you go.
  4. 4
    Finish
    Play
Use what you worked on in real rallies, with a coach on the sideline giving feedback.
Development Program blocks and representative training follow the same approach, with more time on team systems and match play. Want one-on-one time on a specific skill? Book private coaching with a club coach.

How the coaching team works

Three roles, one curriculum

Technical Directors
Vivian N. (General Programs) sets the playing model, the curriculum and the level benchmarks. Cisem K. (Representative Programs) leads the pathway from the Development Program to SVL and YSVL.
Coaches
Run classes, Development Program blocks and representative training. As Main Coaches, they also mentor an assistant coach through every session.
Assistant coaches
Learn alongside a Main Coach in a weekly class, moving from observing to leading parts of the session. Open to anyone who wants to coach.
Our coaches are accredited, and every adult coach and volunteer holds a current NSW Working With Children Check. Every session follows the club's Child Safety Policy and Code of Conduct.
Coach with us

Want to coach? Start as an assistant coach

Most of our coaches started by assisting a weekly class. You don't need coaching experience or a rep background, just reliability and a willingness to learn. A Main Coach mentors you every session, and you move up to Coach when you're ready.
