Getting started

I have never played. Where do I start?
Your first class is $10. On the Start Here page, create an account, buy the first class and book a session from the timetable — it all takes a couple of minutes. After that, pay casually or join a membership.
What do I bring?
Indoor court shoes, water, and knee pads if you have them. Balls and nets are provided.
How early should I arrive?
Ten minutes for a normal session, twenty for trials. Check in with the coach at the door.
Do I have to be fit?
No. Fundamentals classes are built for people who have not played sport in years. Social games are faster and assume you can keep a rally going.
Levels

Which level am I?

What does Fundamentals mean?
The Beginners level. A complete beginner, or a player who can do some skills in drills but is still learning to use them in rallies. Foundations of movement, passing, setting, serving, attacking and positioning.
What does Intermediate mean?
Reliable foundations applied under pressure: you contribute to rallies, make basic decisions and know where to move. Sessions cover systems, transition, reading the game and decision-making.
Can beginners come to social games?
Socials are intermediate only. If you are new, start with a Fundamentals class, and your coach will tell you when socials are the right room.
Who decides when I move up?
Your coach, using the same placement benchmarks for everyone. Ask at the end of any class and they will tell you what to work on or move you across.

Bookings and memberships

What does it cost?
First class $10. Casual: classes $16.50, Social Games $15. Memberships: once a week $13, twice a week $22, unlimited $29 — per week, covering classes and social games.
How do I cancel a booking?
From your account, before the cut-off. A late cancellation or a no-show is one strike.
What happens if I get strikes?
One strike for each late cancellation or no-show. Three strikes within 14 days is a $10 penalty, charged to your account. Strikes are recorded against your member ID — cancel in time and they never happen.
Can I pause or change my membership?
Yes, from your account. Pauses need one week's notice; plan changes and cancellations need two weeks'. No forms.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes, on Twice a Week (1 guest pass a month) or Unlimited (2 a month). Request one in My Account under Guest passes. Your guest can't already be a member, and needs their own account, a signed waiver and a current Volleyball NSW membership before they play.
Teens

Teens and parents

What age can my child start?
Teen groups are for under-18s and run on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings — check the timetable for this week's times. The Development Program is open from 13.
Are coaches checked?
Every adult coach and volunteer holds a current NSW Working With Children Check. Teen groups are coached separately from adults.
Can parents watch?
Yes. There is seating in the hall. Please leave coaching to the coaches.
How do trials work for teens?
YSVL trials run in January. Players eligible for more than one age group can trial for both. Under 18s need a parent or guardian to register.
