Our Women's Division 3 side have finished third at the Volleyball NSW Endorsed League, bringing home bronze in the same weekend our men took silver.
Two teams on the podium at the same competition says something about a club that a single result never could. It is not one good side having a good day. It is a program.
The hardest medal to win
Anyone who has played a tournament knows the bronze playoff is the hardest match of the weekend. You have just lost the one you wanted, your legs are gone, and you have to find something for a game that nobody feels ready for. Plenty of teams do not. This one did.
That is a harder thing to coach than technique, and it is worth more over a season than any single skill.
Where these players came from
Several of this squad started in our Fundamentals classes not that long ago, playing socially on a Monday night before anyone mentioned representative volleyball. The gap between a first class and a state medal looks enormous from the outside. Up close it is just a lot of ordinary Tuesdays.
Thank you
To the players, the coaching staff and everyone who made the trip to support them — thank you. Congratulations to the teams who finished above us, and to Volleyball NSW for a competition worth turning up for.
If you want to be in this squad next season, trials are in January. The format and what we assess are on the Trials page well before the day.
